Message from the CEO

AWL POSITIONED FOR THE FUTURE

Over the past 2 years we have worked tirelessly to make significant operational changes ensuring the continuing strength and viability of the AWL well into this century. It is vital for the lost and abandoned animals of South Australia that the AWL is financially sustainable and has modern business practices to ensure we can continue to deliver the excellent services we have done for over 40 years. We cannot deliver these services without the continued generosity of our members, supporters, volunteers and sponsors and I thank everyone who has helped us in the past.

We have, unfortunately, seen a significant increase in the numbers of dogs and cats dropped off to our facilities in the past 6 months. The increasing cost of living due to interest rate rises, increased petrol and grocery prices combined with a cooling economy have contributed to the higher hand over rates. Economists are predicting a further slowing of the economy and an increase in unemployment in the next 12 months. This being the case we are expecting the numbers of animals to further increase well into 2009.

I ask for your continued support to help us through this next difficult period so the AWL can provide the lost and abandoned animals of South Australia with the food, medical care, shelter and compassion.
