AWL Tax Relief

The Animal Welfare League (AWL) has welcomed the State Government's announcement which will see the organisation benefit from much needed payroll tax relief via new legislation.

AWL Chief Executive Officer, Grant Robb, says the move will result in a saving of $150,000 to the organisation.

“Most importantly, it will also allow us to redirect the funds to where they can be most effective – in caring for the lost and abandoned animals of South Australia,” Mr Robb said.

“We have lobbied extensively to promote the understanding that animal welfare bodies such as the AWL are equally worthy of the exemptions provided to human charities and other welfare organisations.

“We are very pleased that the Government has made the move to support us in this manner,” Mr Robb said.

The Animal Welfare League is South Australia’s largest shelter dealing with over 20,000 lost and abandoned animals per annum.

“The end result of this exemption is that we will ultimately be able to save more of these animals”.

“The change to the legislation criteria also means that we will be on equal par to our interstate counterparts.”

It is expected that exemption will be effective from July 1, 2008.
