‘ANIMALS MATTER!’ is an Australian first, bringing together leading international and national animal advocates to highlight in a one-day symposium how the work of their organisations is changing the world for the better for animals.
(Visit http://www.animalsaustralia.org/events/ for more details)
Hosted by the ABC's Carole Whitelock, this inaugural public event will focus on the power of kindness, and why our treatment of animals has become increasingly relevant as a moral 'signpost' in today's society. For the first time in Australia, leading international and national
animal advocates will highlight to the public how the work of their organisations is changing the world for the better for animals, including:
• Michael Mountain (USA)
President and one of the founders of Best Friends Animal Society. The internationally renowned Best Friends animal sanctuary in Angel Canyon Utah is the largest in the world. Supported by 250,000 Americans, the sanctuary is home to 1500 animals on any given day. Michael will tell us about the proactive movement responsible for the dramatic drop in numbers of animals being killed in shelters each year—from 17 million in 1987 to below 5 million 10 years later.
• Amina Sarwat Abaza (Egypt)
Egypt’s leading animal advocate whose courageous work with the Society for the Protection of Animal Rights Egypt (SPARE) is pioneering change for farm animals, pets and wildlife in this challenging region of the world.
• Phil Brooke (UK)
From UK based Compassion in World Farming (CIWF), the leading international farm animal welfare organisation whose mission is to advance the well-being of farm animals world-wide. CIWF has a tremendous track record in achieving significant change for farm animals through investigations, high profile campaigns and political lobbying.
For all who are interested in animal welfare this is an inspirational event not to be missed!
